DIY time! (harhar) With the upcoming Brussel strobist meet coming up, I decided it was time to make met some grids, snoot, barndoors and spigot adapters. Read the full post for howto’s and pics!

Spigot adapter thingy

A while ago I bought some clamps to use with flashes. Until now I was just using a clamp to bungee a flash too. But no more! With this custom spigot adapter thingy I can use an umbrella mount with the clamp! I have replaced the clamp’s centre screw with a longer one so it sticks out from the side. With the use of regular plumbing stuff and a nut I made small adapters to screw on the screw. Best thing is: you can make them with any thread you like! Check the pics:

Grids

I had only one grid, from white coroplast and I found some black straws to make more grids. I made one of 5 cm length and then cut to 2 and 3 cm but that was no good. During the cutting a lot of straws came loose 🙁 Find some more and do it again! Also a compare of grid size and coroplast vs black straws.

Barndoors

I found a sheet of pvc (I guess) that was used in an old UPS. (Computer backup power supply) I just made the doors as large as I could from this one sheet. Too bad I needed also some stuff to attach the doors to the flash so this is white PE I think. Would’ve been a whole lot nicer if it’d been black but what can you do? The hinges are squeeze so they don’t move that easily. Al “popped” together with rivets. Use the velcro to attach to the flash and a rubber band to secure them.
